What kind of graduates should education produce today, and how can curricula be designed to be both inclusive and value-creating?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe goal set by <\/span>Aegean College<\/span><\/b> through its participation <\/span>in the Transformational Change Academy was to redefine its curricula<\/span><\/b> so that they link human potential with the use of Artificial Intelligence, inclusion with transparency in assessment, as well as a sense of belonging among the student body.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThese initiatives resulted from an assessment of the internal and external environment, which is currently characterized by intense <\/span>digital transformation, \u2018green\u2019 growth, and increasing demands of the job market<\/span><\/b>\u2014all of which, of course, are changing what today\u2019s prospective students need to know.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe <\/span>College<\/span><\/b> is pleased to attract students from diverse backgrounds and with varied characteristics. This means that it must take into account factors such as balancing studies and work, family obligations, financial and academic challenges, etc. These factors now also determine how a curriculum is perceived in practice\u2014one that aims <\/span>not only to promote inclusion as an idea but also to make it an integral part of students\u2019 daily lives.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>"},"small_text":{"small_text_title":"","small_text_description":""},"has_small_list":false,"post_image":{"post_cover_image":null,"post_cover_image_position":"center","open gallery":false},"content_video_source":"Vimeo","content_video_code":""},{"choices":"Separator","big_text":{"big_text_title":"","big_text_description":""},"small_text":{"small_text_title":"","small_text_description":""},"has_small_list":false,"post_image":{"post_cover_image":null,"post_cover_image_position":"center","open gallery":false},"content_video_source":"Vimeo","content_video_code":""},{"choices":"Big Text","big_text":{"big_text_title":"But how does this work in practice? ","big_text_description":"Aegean College\u2019s curricula<\/span><\/b> provide students with <\/span>clear guidelines and set out the expectations for them right from the start.<\/span><\/b> Key factors here are <\/span>transparency in assessment methods<\/span><\/b>, so that no one feels unfairly treated, as well as the alignment of the programs with relevant opportunities in the<\/span> job market.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nEven before participating in the <\/span>Transformational Change Academy<\/span><\/b>, the College had begun raising issues related to the <\/span>responsible use of Artificial Intelligence<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>Sustainability, and the Circular Economy<\/span><\/b>. However, it quickly became apparent that any effort to support students through faculty, programs, seminars, or other local initiatives would have only a temporary effect unless it were actively integrated into an <\/span>organized policy and assessment processes.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nBased on this, the greatest challenge was how to<\/span> translate strategic priorities into a practical redesign of the curricula<\/span><\/b>. Through the <\/span>Transformational Change Academy<\/span><\/b>, the College had the opportunity to operate within a structured environment that served as a catalyst, enabling a simple idea and ambition to be transformed into a significant redesign.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00a0Particular emphasis was placed on the following changes:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n
    \r\n \t
  • The creation of a unified and clear framework<\/span><\/b> for understanding terms such as \u201chuman skills of the future, the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence, inclusive pedagogical methods, a sense of belonging, and transparency in assessment methods.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

    • Strategic goal-setting,<\/span><\/b> based on educational research and the need to identify areas requiring improvement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

          \r\n \t
        • Ensuring that students, upon entering today\u2019s job market,<\/span><\/b> will possess skills that are well-founded, applicable, and, as far as possible, not at risk of being replaced by automation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
            \r\n \t
          • Emphasis is placed on strengthening critical thinking,<\/span><\/b> communication, adaptability, and responsibility in social and political life.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
              \r\n \t
            • Empowering the workforce and aligning curricula<\/span><\/b> with the job market and its needs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
                \r\n \t
              • Transparency in assessment <\/span><\/b>and its practical implementation, particularly at a time when the use of AI often makes it difficult to identify critical analysis, in-depth understanding of the subject matter, and clear argumentation in student work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
                  \r\n \t
                • An<\/span><\/b> emphasis on inclusion and equality<\/span><\/b> through a curriculum designed to cater to students with diverse backgrounds and an academic environment that provides them with practical support whenever they need it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
                    \r\n \t
                  • The students\u2019 understanding <\/span><\/b>of the usefulness and practical applicability of what they are learning, so that they can develop their own unique professional identity, solve everyday problems, and be productive in their work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
                      \r\n \t
                    • The continuous training and professional development<\/span><\/b> of academic staff, so that they remain fully informed about technological and educational developments, have the skills to design programs with freedom and consistency, and conduct evaluations guided by the principle of inclusion.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
                        \r\n \t
                      • Designing not just a program with short-term results<\/span><\/b>, but a model that can serve as a foundation for redesigning educational programs at all levels.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThe goals that were set have not remained merely theoretical; they have already begun to be implemented in practice within<\/span> Aegean College\u2019s<\/span><\/b> programs. Notable examples include the<\/span> School of Business Administration<\/span><\/b>, where great emphasis is placed on<\/span> Sustainability,<\/span><\/b> ESG<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>Digital Transformation<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>Artificial Intelligence<\/span><\/b>, project management and <\/span>day-to-day operations, <\/span><\/b>and<\/span> business ethics<\/span><\/b>. Another example is the<\/span> English Language Teaching program<\/span><\/b>, which emphasizes the effectiveness of distance learning through the use of technological tools, as well as the responsible use of AI in research, presentations, and podcasts. Overall, in the College\u2019s other programs\u2014whether they pertain to the <\/span>Natural Sciences<\/span><\/b>, such as <\/span>Chemistry <\/span><\/b>and <\/span>Biology<\/span><\/b>; the <\/span>Technological Sciences<\/span><\/b>, such as <\/span>Computer Science<\/span><\/b>; or <\/span>Cognitive Psychology <\/span><\/b>and <\/span>Neuroscience<\/span><\/b>\u2014 the goal is to implement a unified policy that emphasizes, on the one hand, new technologies and AI, but on the other hand, the preservation of the integrity of research based on<\/span> ethical values<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>Sustainability<\/span><\/b>, and<\/span> Inclusion<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe priority<\/span><\/b>, in any case, is a coherent and consistent curriculum, with clear and well-defined learning outcomes and a connection to the job market. However, this coherence does not mean standardization or uniformity.                         • The emphasis on the physical and mental health of its students<\/span><\/b>, who come from diverse backgrounds and have different needs and expectations regarding their education. It is possible that some students did not have access to comprehensive preparation prior to their university education. These students need greater clarity in the curriculum, a balanced distribution of coursework, support during the transition, and more feedback.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
                            \r\n \t
                          • Preventing and addressing students\u2019 difficultie<\/span><\/b>s before they become obstacles to their success. The College promotes open communication and designs curricula that support early risk identification, immediate feedback, and the establishment of clear expectations for students.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
                              \r\n \t
                            • The learning outcomes focus on the responsible use of AI<\/span><\/b>, analytical and critical thinking, Sustainability, decision-making, and research ethics. In terms of inclusion, emphasis is placed on the transparency of educational and assessment processes, with enhanced support for the most vulnerable communities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

The same applies to teaching and assessment methods, which must be clear from the outset and aim to provide meaningful feedback. Over the next 6\u201312 months, it will become clearer how the goals that were set are being implemented in practice and what needs improvement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nIn conclusion, Aegean College\u2019s participation in the Advance HE Transformational Change Academy<\/span><\/b> provided it with a fertile ground to continue working effectively toward improving its academic programs, redefining its academic goals, to evaluate its faculty accurately and transparently, and to provide them with ongoing professional development.
