The History of Aegean College

From 1946 to today…

1946

The “OMIROS Institute” was founded, pioneering foreign-language education programs for its time.

1955

Secretary and accounting training programs are offered for the first time in Greece.

1960

The “OMIROS” School of Journalism is established. Many renowned journalists launched their careers here.

1981

The first “OMIROS Vocational Schools” begin operations, establishing the foundation of the Group’s post-secondary education endeavours. Students, professionals, companies, and organizations gain access to education in IT and new technologies for the first time.

1992

The “OMIROS” Technical Vocational Lyceum is founded, awarding state-recognized high school diplomas.

1994

The Vocational Training Institute system is launched. OMIROS IEK secures a leading position by offering diplomas recognized by both the Greek state and the European Union, while innovating study programmes tailored to market needs. Investments are made in excellent technological infrastructure, high-calibre personnel, and partnerships with leading tech companies.

1997

Aegean College is founded. This new higher-education institution is built on top-tier infrastructure and develops productive partnerships with globally renowned academic institutions, offering high‑level undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. OMIROS’s educational services are modernised, expanded, and aligned with emerging market needs.

2000

Artis Fine Arts Workshop joins the OMIROS Educational Group, bringing with it the dynamic teaching staff from the former Doxiades schools.

2006

Aegean College invests further in the fields of Health Sciences and Humanities.

2009

Following legislative reforms in public and private education, Aegean College obtains its Establishment License (Government Gazette 1532/Β/27‑07‑2009) and Operating License (Govt. Gazette 2139/Β/1‑10‑2009) from the Ministry of Education.

2010

The Operating License is renewed under Gazette 1311/Β/24‑08‑2010. Aegean College successfully meets all criteria and continues to operate as a recognized post-secondary education centre.

2013

Under the updated education law (Law 4093/2012), Aegean College receives a new Operating License (Gazette 1986/18‑08‑2013) and is officially recognised as a college by the state. That same year, the College relocates to its iconic address at 17 Panepistimiou Street, in the heart of Athens.

2021

Aegean College launches a strategic partnership with the University of Essex.
