For the first time we offer International students the opportunity to participate in an intensive Program of Learning Modern Greek as a second language if they wish to attend an academic program of their choice at Aegean Omiros College.

The Aegean Lifelong Learning Centre provides international students the opportunity to participate in an intensive program of learning Modern Greek as a second language.

By the successful completion of the Greek for Foreigners Program, students will be able to enter the academic education program (1st semester) and start their new academic life.

This program focuses on providing the students with the opportunity to be autonomous and adequate users of Greek language. Specifically, by the end of this program students should be able to:

 

  • Communicate spontaneously with adequate competence, fluency and accuracy on a variety of social, academic/professional topics
  • Show deep understanding of very complex, detailed and extensive texts
  • Develop great writing skills and produce structured texts on complex topics with the accurate and fluent use of Greek language (building documentation according to academic writing rules).

The program includes courses designed to assess and evaluate candidates in four or five skills, namely reading and listening comprehension and written /oral production skills as well as the use of language (duration of the program: 650 hours).

Tutorials: lectures, notes, e-books, handbooks, multimedia (power point presentations, audiovisual (videos, CD-ROMs)), flash cards etc. Learning will take place through self-study, experience-based activities/ tasks, seminars, active participation in tests and projects.

Module Aims

The module focuses on teaching and presenting the basic phonetic and writing rules of the Greek Alphabet so as the beginners of Greek language will be facilitated to develop reading and writing skills. Its aim is to help the participants primarily practise communication, reading and listening comprehension skills. This crucial knowledge will help them to participate in simple conversations on everyday matters using appropriately grammar and syntax structures (1st level). Beginner user of the Greek language should be able to use daily expressions, greetings, recommendations, to give simple descriptions, explanations and information on personal/family life and develop simple and standard communication.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module students should be able to:

  1. Be familiar with phonetic and writing rules in Greek Alphabet
  2. Participate in simple conversations, giving simple explanations, information and descriptions and expressing certain needs, wishes, views, feelings and experiences on daily matters in an appropriate and comprehensive manner.
  3. Identify and understand the basic ideas of written or oral texts (simple ads., tourist brochures, simple friendly and formal letters, public transport instructions etc.)

Module Aims

The module focuses on teaching and presenting Greek language (morphosyntactic  structures, vocabulary and linguistic actions) of basic linguistic competence level so as participants develop good reading and listening comprehension as well as written and oral production skills. Basic user of the Greek language could show greater ability to exchange information in a variety of communicative circumstances, easily understand the main idea of complex texts or the main points of different issues, show successful response to key communication situations and express opinions or judgement with ease and without effort on a variety of subjects such as travelling, health/care, sports, technology, occupations/ working conditions, transportation means, nutrition, customs/festivals, consumerism etc.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module students should be able to:

  1. Participate with ease and without effort in conversations on a variety communicative circumstances, with greater ability to describe experiences and events or to develop documentation and produce plain texts (oral /written).
  2. Identify and understand the main points of more complex texts (formal letters to newspaper, articles, stories, television programs, book or film descriptors, electronic devices instructions etc.)
  3. Be familiar with the basic characteristics of Greek culture (social life, history, living conditions etc.)

Module Aims

The module focuses on teaching and presenting Greek language complex morphosyntactic  structures, more expanded vocabulary and complex linguistic actions/register (3rd level) so as participants develop a great command of reading and listening comprehension as well as written and oral production skills. Its aim is to provide the second language learners the opportunity to be eventually autonomous speakers of Greek language. This crucial knowledge will allow them to respond spontaneously and with adequate competence, fluency and accuracy to diverse and complex communicative circumstances covering academic/professional needs.

By the end of this module students should be able to:
