The University of Essex continues to rank among the world’s leading universities in 2025.
Specifically, it is placed in the 351–400 band out of more than 2,800 institutions globally—placing it within the top 12% worldwide—according to the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025.
The THE World University Rankings provide the definitive list of the world’s top universities, with a strong focus on research excellence.
It is the only global university ranking that evaluates research-intensive institutions across all their core missions: teaching (the learning environment), research environment (volume, income, and reputation), research quality (research outputs), industry engagement (knowledge transfer), and international outlook (staff, students, and research).
The ranking uses 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available. The overall list is complemented by 11 subject-specific rankings.
Following the Guardian Good University Guide 2025, which highlights the University of Essex as the leading UK university with a presence in Greece, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 reaches the same conclusion.
